A few months back, my long-time friend called me on Saturday morning and said she had to clean out her attic unexpectedly. She said she had two truckloads; one for the Goodwill and one for the dump and I could have any of it I wanted. Of course, it didn't take me long to get to her house! I had fun digging through and finding things I could use or sell at my shop. There was lots of vintage fabric, patterns and buttons.
She gave me several quilt tops (they were not on the trucks) and this is my favorite. I've always loved yo yo quilts. This top was made by her grandmother at least forty years ago. Each little circle is handmade and they are all stitched together by hand.
She also gave me a large box of loose yo yo pieces. I have been putting them on lampshades, pillows, and anything else I make.
My pictures aren't great, the colors are much prettier.
Oh my gosh is that ever awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo much time went into that quilt. I love it.

Oh my! That is just gorgeous Sharon! I remember seeing a yoyo quilt at our house when I was growing up. A few years ago I bought the template to make them but I haven't sat down and taken the time to do it. I have a table runner that I bought at Home Goods a few years ago that is made from the yoyo's. I love it! You could make one of those too!

Oh wow you lucky duck! Although I cant imagine giving away something my grandmother made, thats kind of sad. Glad you were able to save some of it.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty and great that they have found a new home. Have fun. Have a terrific Tuesday.

Oh how wonderful that she passed that sweet yo-yo quilt on to you... someone who will really appreciate the workmanship and time it took to make It would have been a shame for it to end up in a dumpster.
ReplyDeleteWhat can't you do, Sharon! Glad you could rescue the quilts! Thanks for sharing. xo Nancy
