A Great Weekend!

I got home around dinner time today from an overnight visit with my sister.  She lives about 100 miles from me and we get together about once a month.   She's a very positive influence on me.  She encourages me to to eat healthy and has finally persuaded me not to drink diet sodas.  In spite of the rainy weather, we had a great time looking for "treasures".

On the way home I stopped at my shop space to add some things I bought on my trip.  While I was there I was talking to a customer about my lamp shades and feed sacks.  Out of nowhere, she asked me if I had a blog about corgis. She has been reading my blog for quite a while and read my recent post about the lampshades and recognized them in my shop.  She is a beautiful lady and it was fun to meet her under those circumstances!

My niece is coming Sunday for a few days.  We'll be "fluffing" up things in the shop for the open house next week and catching up.

On Tuesday I'm getting my kitchen ceiling repaired.  I can't wait to get that behind me and dread all the mess it's going make.

A Rainy Day and More Reading!

Occasionally I like to go back and read some of the classics I read when I was much younger.  At my age, however, it's like reading them for the first time because I don't remember anything about the story.

Today I read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.  It's a very short read and only has 127 pages.  I really enjoyed it!

Happiness at my house is a rainy afternoon of reading with a precious corgi girl snuggling next to me!  It's amazing how much warmth comes from her furry body.

A Great Book and Movie

About a month ago I read Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio and loved it.  Last night I started  her  book, Violets of March, and read until 4:00 a.m. because I couldn't put it down until I knew how it ended.  I enjoyed it even more than Blackberry Winter.  I have my name of the waiting list at my library for her third book, Bungalow.

I saw Safe Haven, a movie based on the last Nicholas Sparks book, on Valentine's Day.  It was very good.  The setting was a small NC coastal town and the scenery was beautiful.  The story is not the typical Nicholas Sparks love story and has some violent scenes.  It's probably my favorite of the movies made from his books.

Happy Valentine's Day

I pulled this post from my archives  to share  with you again on this Valentine's Day.  This  postcard was sent from France during WWII by my friend's relative  to his sweetheart  in West Virginia.   It has a beautiful lace pocket on the front with "To My Sweetie" embroidered on it.  Enclosed  is a small calling card that says "My thoughts are always with you".  There's a picture of a soldier writing a letter on the front and the soldier's name and France on the back.

I can only imagine the joy in the heart of the young sweetheart when she opened it.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It All Started with One Feed Sack

I recently found this beautiful feed sack at a flea market.  It took me a while to decide how to use it but finally thought I'd try covering a lampshade.

I was excited about how it turned out and have been covering shades all week!  I've enjoyed being creative without sewing.

The glue is still damp on this one.

I've used fabrics and trims that I already have.  Do you think I'll be able to sell them in my shop space (except for the blue one, it's in my bedroom)?
