Guess Who Came To Dinner

Some of you might be thinking Sidney Poitier or Spencer Tracy from the 1967 movie with a similar name.  No, it was my 18 year old  cat, Tod.

Tod sleeps most of the time and isn't very active in his golden years.  Thursday when it was time for Thanksgiving dinner he decided to join us and perched himself in the extra chair  a few feet from the table.  After a few couple sad meows, my daughter pulled his chair up to the table.  He sat there like a real gentlemen and she fed him turkey in his chair.  We were impressed by his impeccable manners (not one elbow paw on the table).

Last night I was heating  the leftovers for dinner and heard  loud meows.   I looked in the same corner and there he was in his chair  waiting to be served.  When we were all seated, I pulled his chair up to the table and shared my turkey.

We all love Tod!   He's is a very affectionate, gentle cat.   My family will always remember the Thanksgiving that he "came to dinner".

New Arrival!

My friend, Kim, at Life At Golden Pines blog has a new Scottish Terrier puppy named Todd.  Isn't he adorable?  Kim does Golden Retriever rescue and is so amazing.  I know this little guy will bring so much joy to everyone at her home (including the goldens).
Todd says, "Hey, wait up, Reggie.   I just want to introduce myself!"

Bald Neck Chicken

I recently had this email from my friend who lives in South Africa. This might be of interest to all you "farm chics" out there.  She wrote:

On a drive one day, we met friends at a coffee shop with a difference. This coffee shop was 20kilometers (about 10 miles) out on a very badly surfaced dirt road through the mountains, on a farm. The farmer's wife is a baker of note. She stocks a good variety of freshly baked cakes and scones, which she serves with thick farm cream. Most of the eggs used in the cakes come from a strange variety of chicken called the "bald neck" chicken.   The coffee was good, cakes delicious and all in all, worth the trip out.

Alpacas

I spent a wonderful afternoon yesterday with my friend who lives in the country.  We had a cardmaking workshop with one other friend and then we visited her neighbor who raises alpacas.  They are the most fascinating animals!

(I have linked up with Amy at Verde Farm blog for Farm Friend Friday. Click on the Verde Farm button in the top right corner to see other great farm posts.)

This little white girl is Elizabeth.  She was very friendly and gave her owner the sweetest kisses.

The picture below is one of two Great Pyrenees dogs at this farm.   She was  napping in the sunshine in the middle of the alpaca pen!

I thought this was so cute!

I believe this goat's name was Ethel.  There was a Lucy also.

The other Great Pyrenees was hanging out with the chickens.

The beautiful day ended with dinner of corned beef and cabbage at my daughter's for St. Patrick's Day.  So much fun!

Miss Vera

Miss Vera has had a very busy week.   Every time I looked out the window she was stalking something.  The moles and voles must be moving around since the weather is warmer.  She is so serious about keeping her yard in order.  She doesn't even like for me to talk to her when she's working.

My daffodils are up about six inches and I noticed yesterday that the forsythia was almost in full bloom at the local botanical gardens.  I sure hope these few warm days haven't fooled the spring flowers and they won't be frozen during a snow storm in March.

Spring is my favorite season!  Everything comes alive after a "long winter's nap".  I can't wait to hear the "spring peepers" peeping.

Snowing on the James River

My friend took these lovely pictures of some of the waterfowl on the James River yesterday during the snow.

Just look at his beautiful blue eye!
I think Mr. Mallard has cold feet!

They all look so peaceful!  I hope you'll take time today to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Draft Horses

When I visited my friend last week to help her with her dollhouse, we took pictures at her neighbor's farm of her draft horses.  Draft horses are known for there tall stature and extremely muscular build.  They are bred to be work horses.  All of them were so beautiful and didn't seem to mind having their pictures taken.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I wanted to share with you this picture of my grandcat in his lobster costume.  He is such a ham and loves to have his picture taken.  My daughter found him when he was  a tiny kitten in the woods behind her townhouse.  He's the love of her life!
This year he's going to be a frog!
