Knit Your Own Royal Wedding: published by Andrews McMeel Publishing

Knit Your Own Royal Wedding: published by Andrews McMeel Publishing

A friend sent me this link for a pattern book to knit the Royal Family.   I thought the corgis were so cute.   I crochet but never learned to knit.  I imagine knitting these little guys would be quite tedious.

Water for Elephants

I have to say that I was disappointed in this book.  To me it was very dark with too many bizarre and cruel things happening to the animals and people. I expected some of this  because of the circus setting, but it was depressing after a while.
Has anyone read a good book lately that you can recommend?

Baby Nigeria Dwarfs Playing 0001

With permission from Michaele of  Sprout 'N' Wings Farm blog, I am posting her baby goats  video for your entertainment.  I'm trying to work out a deal to trade her a corgi for the little white one!

Antique Candlesticks

Friday's "junkin" trip turned out to be very interesting.    I found a set of candlesticks in a very small thrift shop.  The little girl and boy fishing caught my eye and since they were only $10, I decided to buy them.  Later in the day we were in an antique shop and I saw a set for $400.  I asked the shop owner to look at the ones I had purchased earlier and he was so helpful!  They are Girandole candlesticks made during the mid 1800's out of cast bronze with a marble base.  He said  the characters depicted on them were sometimes  from a classic novel and mine were probably from David Copperfield.  The prisms are not original so that reduces the value but he believed they would still  be worth between $200 to $300.  The whole experience was like being on the Antique Roadshow.

I found a set in an Etsy shop with the original prisms for $420.  If you'd like to see them, search Girandole candlesticks under all sellers in Etsy.

Needless to say, I'm going to sell them if I have an opportunity!

Water for Elephants

Tonight I'm going to start reading Water for Elephants.  I always get excited when I start a  book, it's like going on a new adventure.  Sara Gruen, the author is originally from Canada and now lives in NC with her husband, two dogs, four cats, two horses and a goat.  Anyone who has that many animals has to be wonderful, don't you think?

Friday I'll be "junkin" all day with my friend.  Maybe I'll have some things to show you on Saturday.

Have a great weekend!

Corgi Topiary

This past weekend I went to a Home and Garden Show with a friend and found this corgi topiary.  It was expensive, but I decided I couldn't live without it.   I plan to  leave it out in the rain  to get soaked later this week  and then plant some small plants on it.  I am going to use hens and chickens for a collar and very small sedum for the britches.  I'll post pictures of the finished corgi next week.

My friend bought this cocker spaniel.  It is so adorable and already had everything  planted on it.   She looks very friendly greeting visitors on her front porch.
