Flea Market Find!

Saturday my niece and I were at the local flea market and I saw this cabinet from across the parking lot.  It was beautiful!  Even though I figured it would be more than I could spend and I had nowhere to put it, I couldn't wait to talk to the vendor!

The vendor shared what she knew about the history of this cabinet.  The original owner commissioned a local artist to paint the door panels with items that were significant to her family.  The postmark on the letter reads "1992 - Richmond, VA."  I asked her about the price and she said $50!  After recovering from the shock of such a bargain, I bought it. 

It was obviously damaged when it was moved because there are a few cracks that need fixing.  It was quite dirty and smudged.  With the help of  Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, it cleaned up beautifully.

I removed a corner cabinet from my family room and the new piece looks beautiful in there!

Just Catching Up!

Every minute of this past week was so wonderful for me!  My niece came to visit for a few days and we had so much catching up to do.  She's been the primary caregiver for my elderly brother-in-law who passed a few weeks ago for about five years.  Her mom died about 12 years ago.

I took her to all my favorite consignment shops and favorite restaurants.  We spent hours on my front porch just chatting and working on some wreaths she was helping me make.  She's very artistic!

I wanted to share these pictures of things blooming in my yard right now.  I love this time of year.

Happy Birthday to Someone Very Special!

It was 38 years ago today that I received this adorable card from one of my co-workers when she came to visit me and my newborn daughter.  I  remember the joy and excitement I felt that day as if it were yesterday.

She's a mom now of two beautiful daughters, ages 13 and 15.   How did all those years just slip by me so quickly?

My Trip to the Outer Banks

 I love the sight and sound of the ocean!

I just got back from spending four glorious days in Nags Head, NC, with great friends.  My trip could not have been more perfect!  The temperature was in the 70's most of the time, we ate at great seafood restaurants and I had a successful day of selling at the market on Saturday.

The market was outside in a beautiful waterfront park  in the charming little town of  Manteo.  Manteo has  great shops, old southern homes and very friendly residents.  It is about 15 minutes from  Nags Head and the ocean.

It seemed like everyone who came to the market brought their dog.  The SPCA was sponsoring a "Dog Wash" and it was hilarious to watch all the different breeds  being bathed.

I had breakfast this morning at Mel's Diner in Grandy, NC.  I couldn't resist taking picture of this antique Ford parked in front of it.  It sure seems strange to refer to a car that was popular during my early years as antique.  So, what does that make me?

I'm excited about having dinner tonight with my daughters for Mother's Day.  I hope all of you are having a great day!

Purses and Pillows!

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was preparing for a craft show/market that I'm participating in next weekend in Manteo, N. C.  I finally got everything finished and wanted to show you some of the things I've made.

My Fairy Garden

I decided to make my fairy garden in my old Radio Flyer wagon this year.   I put a thin layer of pea gravel in the bottom and then covered it with potting soil.  The wagon already had holes in it for drainage.  A nursery in my area sells tiny ground covers that are call "Stepables" and were just the right size for this project.

The cedar tree is about 12" tall and was growing in my flower border.  I also used moss that was growing in my yard.  This was such a fun project!

Of course, no garden is complete without a corgi!

Happy Birthday to My May Baby!

Thirty-five years ago today my youngest daughter was born!  That makes me feel old as dirt!
